Factory Open Day 2009 |
||
The 3rd Annual Nostalgia Cars Open Day was held at the Factory on 16th May 2009. This annual get together of staff and customers, old and new, is an expression of thanks by the Company for our custom and support. It offers new customers the chance to talk to those who have gone before them and have their questions answered from an independent source as well as seeing how factory built cars and customer built cars are finished. . |

The weather forecast wasn't brilliant. Similar to last year, we had had brilliant weather the week before at the Prescott Hill climb, but now were faced with a mixture of sunshine and showers. Only time would tell if people would be deterred from coming by thee weather. Nostalgia had organised displays of work in progress including a couple of C types for export and Steve Hodgson's XK120 resplendent in it's new brilliant red paintwork waiting to go to be trimmed. Meanwhile more visitors were arriving. |

Soon Simon and Chris were quite busy in to a round of demonstration runs whilst Matt and Glynn were showing visitors around. It certainly felt as though the weather had only put a few people off. This is always a good time to catch up with how people are progressing with building their car. It was nice to meet up with Joe Browne and Richard King and share their experiences. Talking amongst ourselves is both helpful and therapeutic. Borne out of the realisation that we have all had similar experiences when building our car. Those of us who have completed their build are able pass on the knowledge |
.gained and help in some small way. It was nice to see Colin Andrews again and share his experience after the LPG conversion. Fitted after the car was completed, it has a full size petrol tank and an LPG tank in the boot at the cost of a loss of boot space. Not so much since Colin used to carry a full size spare wheel in the boot. Now he has an emergency spare wheel fixed to the luggage rack. On the plus side almost unlimited range on a full tank of petrol and LPG and a tank full of LPG costs £30 as opposed to £55 for petrol.

It was also nice to see Roy Gamblin in much improved health, all be it in his Jaguar "S" type rather than his XK120. Throughout the day the demo drives went well using Gordon Muir's XK120 and Vince Harry's C-Type backed up by using the "Black Cat" on specific requests and to cope with busy moments. The NSCC Stand displayed photographs of last weekends Prescott Hill climb. Thanks to Roger Croad for his great movie of Prescott which played continuously throughout the day and attracted a steady stream of viewers. |

Overall visitor numbers were slightly down but those attending kept us busy and made the day very enjoyable. Our thanks to Simon and Chris for their hospitality and making us welcome. The proceeds of the day, in aid of St Margaret's Hospice, raised approximately £350. Thank you to all who donated. Last but not least thank you from all of us to Thelma, Caroline and Sue for running the refreshment bar so efficiently and feeding us with wonderful home cooked meats and home made cakes. We expressed our thanks on the day with a gift of flowers for each of them . |
